Ultimately, Tanimura uncovered that an Ueno lieutenant named Isao Katsuragi and a Tojo sergeant named Kazuo Shibata had actually orchestrated the attack in order to advance their own careers. However, Tanimura found several inconsistencies in Sugiuchi's report on the incident, so he started a parallel investigation of his own. One year later, Tojo Clan hitman Taiga Saejima carried out an attack on Ueno Seiwa Clan chairman Yoshiharu Ueno, during which 18 men were killed, and Tanimura's partner, Sugiuchi, was assigned as the lead investigator on the case, since he was the first officer on the scene. Since Kaga's son had been left in his care, Tanimura adopted him as his own, naming him Masayoshi. Without the documentation that Kaga could provide nor his link to the group itself, Tanimura and Saki found that their investigation into the syndicate fell apart. Unfortunately for Kaga, the syndicate had caught onto his betrayal and had him killed before he could deliver the evidence. Due to this, Kaga wanted to not only protect his new love and their child, but also to put a stop to the crimes he had previously helped perpetrate.Īfter Tanimura and Saki helped Kaga get his Thai lover back to her home country, Kaga gave his son to Tanimura to look after while he infiltrated the syndicate's base to acquire evidence to bring its members to trial. As it turned out, this trafficking ring had been bribing Kaga for years to keep their operations secret, but now he had fallen in love with a Thai woman who had been trafficked by the organization (known as the Bridge Syndicate) and fathered a son with her.

In 1984, Tanimura's friend Yusuke Kaga approached him and another Homicide detective, Saki, with information regarding a series of murders which Saki had linked to a human trafficking ring. In the early 1980's, Tanimura was the star detective of the Homicide Division of the Kamurocho Precinct of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, alongside his less-decorated partner, Junji Sugiuchi. He is a detective working for the Homicide Division of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Yakuza 4 Taigi Tanimura ( 谷村 大義, Tanimura Taigi) is a character featured in Yakuza 4.
